The 5-Step Storm Damage Process

01

Stay safe & document everything

After the storm passes, photograph hail on the ground (with something for scale), dented gutters, damaged screens, and any interior leaks. Don’t climb on the roof — that’s our job.

02

Get a professional inspection first

Before calling your insurance company, have us document the damage. Hail damage assessments are typically free, and you’ll know whether a claim is even warranted — filing a claim that gets denied still goes on your record.

03

File your claim within the window

Minnesota policies typically give you 12 months from the storm date to file. Storm dates are public record — we can confirm which storms hit your address.

04

We meet your adjuster on-site

Adjusters miss things — and some aren’t familiar with local code requirements like full tear-off. We walk the roof with them so the scope reflects what your home actually needs.

05

Restoration, built to code

We handle permits, install to manufacturer spec, and back the work with our 10-year workmanship warranty. You pay your deductible; we handle the rest with your insurer.

Before You Sign Anything at Your Door…

After every major storm, out-of-state crews sweep through Central Minnesota neighborhoods offering to "cover your deductible" or pressure you into filing a claim on the spot. Some do fine work. Many disappear before the warranty matters.

Storm & Insurance Questions

How do I know if hail damaged my roof?

From the ground, look for dented gutters and downspouts, damaged window screens, dinged siding, and shingle granules collecting in gutters or at downspout exits. Actual shingle bruising is often invisible from the ground — that's why a professional inspection matters. Hail damage assessments from Zablocki are typically free.

How big are hail claims in Minnesota?

Minnesota leads the nation in hail claims. The average claim now runs around $30,000, and full roofing-plus-siding claims regularly reach $40,000–$60,000. That's exactly why insurers scrutinize claims — and why proper documentation from day one matters.

What is Minnesota’s matching law?

Minn. Stat. 65A.28 requires replacement materials to reasonably match adjacent materials in color and quality. If your shingle or siding is discontinued and a patch repair can't match, that can support replacing the larger section. We document discontinued materials and make this case to your insurer.

Will my rates go up if I file a hail claim?

Hail claims are "act of God" claims — in Minnesota, insurers generally can't surcharge you individually for one. Regional rates rise after big storm years regardless of whether you file. If your roof has legitimate storm damage, you're leaving your own money on the table by not filing.

My roof is 15+ years old. Does that change my claim?

Possibly — many policies now cover older roofs at Actual Cash Value (depreciated) rather than full replacement cost, which can leave a gap of $6,000–$10,000. We'll help you read your policy's roof schedule before you file so there are no surprises.
